The name "France" comes from Latin Francia, which literally means "land of the Franks or Frankland". There are various theories as to the origin of the name of the Franks. One is that it is derived from the Proto-Germanic word frankon which translates as javelin or lance as the throwing axe of the Franks was known as a francisca. In German, France is still called Frankreich, which literally means "Realm of the Franks". In order to distinguish from the Frankish Empire of Charlemagne, Modern France is called Frankreich, while the Frankish Realm is called Frankenreich.

The word "Frank" had been loosely used from the fall of Rome to the Middle Ages, yet from Hugh Capet's coronation as "King of the Franks" ("Rex Francorum") it became used to strictly refer to the Kingdom of Francia, which would become France. The Capetian Kings were descended from the Robertines, who had proced two Frankish kings, and previously held the title of "Duke of the Franks" ("x francorum"). This Frankish chy encompassed most of modern northern France but because the royal power was sapped by regional princes the term was then applied to the royal demesne as a shorthand. It was finally the name adopted for all of the Kingdom as central power was affirmed over the entire kingdom.[14]

《possession》是伊莎贝勒·阿佳尼与Andrzej Zulawski导演合作的一部影片，阿佳尼所拥有的那种独特的神经质的表情、绝望得另人心碎的眼神在这部影片展现到了及至。与其说这是一部充满恐怖气氛的惊悚片，不如把其理解成对夫妻之间爱欲解构与诠释。

剧情：
影片讲述了一对面临问题的夫妻，丈夫怀疑妻子有第三者，影片最初都是在夫妻之间喋喋不休的争论与极端的自残式的发泄中进行的，而当丈夫发泄了妻子的第三者，被第三者“修理”得鲜血直流之后，影片就一直延续着血腥的风格直到结束。
随着剧情的展开，探员发现妻子家里居然藏着一个恶魔，当两个探员先后发现了恶魔又被妻子杀死碎尸了藏进了冰箱，妻子原先的第三者也发现了这一秘密而被妻子刺伤。丈夫回家发现房间里的惨状去酒吧寻找第三者并将他杀死后又回到家里炸毁了整个房子。
接着影片达到了高潮，也越来越充满了超现实的情节与画面，丈夫发现妻子跟日渐人型的恶魔交媾。最后妻子居然带着与丈夫同样模样的恶魔来见丈夫，并双双被警察击毙。
影片的最后，有着妻子同样面貌而被丈夫心生好感的幼儿园老师发现屋外有人敲门，夫妻两的儿子（丈夫将儿子交由老师照顾，所以他和那位老师待在一起）喊着“不要开门不要开门”的冲上楼自溺于浴缸，随着镜头的推进以及屋内外环境的变化，门外敲门的人显现是有着丈夫模样的恶魔。

解析：
导演意味深长的让阿佳尼与男主角同时扮演着两个身份，不难想到，所谓的恶魔以及幼儿园教师其实只是夫妻两自己内心所制造出来的产物。而之所以会制造出怪物这样极端的产物，也是妻子在长期压抑的生活中自我寻求了一条宣泄之路，正如同丈夫陪着老妇人（可能是他母亲）淡定得在如同灵柩的床上入睡时，突然被风吹开的窗户一样。
上帝关上一扇门的同时会在别处打开一扇窗，而妻子所寻求的自我救赎之路就是在内心中创造了个恶魔，因此即使她对着基督的塑像也无法得到庇护，只是因为恶魔本身即是她自己所创造的。
正如有些论述基督教的书中的理论，恶魔撒旦是由人所创造出来对抗上帝的，如东方的佛教里所说的“是心是佛，是心造佛”也是同样的道理，导演用极端的具体故事把这个道理讲述了出来，而所谓possession即迷恋的意思，本身也是因为心而引起的。
