創作背景

1985年的春天，萊昂納爾在完成《We Are the World》之後，又應邀為電影《飛越蘇聯》譜寫一首同名的主題曲。影片講述了一個蘇聯叛變者逃到了西方，而一個美國叛變者因理想的破滅又逃到了蘇聯的故事。

萊昂納爾花了兩個星期的時間，發現自己無法寫出那樣的一首歌，不過倒是譜成了另外一首他覺得可能很適合該片劇情的歌曲，那也就是《Say You，Say Me》。導演泰勒·海克福德聽過之後，也非常喜歡，並決定放在片子結尾
