無知的人類，往往是災難性事件的始作俑者……一場大面積的病毒突然爆發，傳播速度之快幾乎無人能夠阻止，沒有人知道可怕的病毒之源開始於何處，只知道它是沒辦法停止的、不可逆轉的、無法治癒的，最重要的是，它是人為創造出來的。
羅伯特·奈維爾是紐約市一個才華橫溢的病原體學者，為美國軍方服務。他作為政府投資研究抵抗流行性疾病的疫苗的先頭部隊，看著病毒在街道上如此肆虐，卻也只有無能為力的份兒。這種通過空氣就能傳播的病毒最終以一種難以抵禦速度籠罩了整個城市，使得總統只能下令封鎖紐約市，未被感染的人才能出城。可想而知，這種做法造成了市民的極大恐慌，紐約城頓時亂作一團。羅伯特在焦急之中將妻子佐伊和7歲的女兒馬莉送上出城的直升機，卻目睹他們死在面前的慘劇……這種時候，死亡也許是最好的選擇，因為那些被感染卻沒有死的人，身體發生了異變，成為一種可怕的生物，不再存在任何理智的思考，行屍走肉般地居住在城市地下的黑暗和陰影當中，躲避著陽光--他們對新鮮的血與肉，有著最為原始的渴望。
這場災難所導致的後果，就是紐約變成了一座死城，而羅伯特就成了這里僅存的一個人類--不知何故，他的血液對這種病毒有著天生的免疫能力。羅伯特知道自己可以支配兩種武器，那就是他在科學上的專業知識和自己的血液。曾經在軍隊里討生活的經歷，幫助他選擇了在這座被廢棄的城市中生活的方式，完全是高度系統化的，他每天都要堅持大量的體能訓練，還要不間斷地發出求救或尋找和自己一樣的倖存者的無線電波……羅伯特是一個非常自律的人，否則在這種極端孤獨的情況下，正常人都有可能發瘋。唯一還在與羅伯特並肩作戰的，就是他最為忠誠的夥伴薩姆，一隻德國牧羊犬。白天，羅伯特帶著薩姆外出尋找維持生命的供給，然後去實驗室時做研究、發無線電波；到了晚上，他們把自己關在一個堅固得有如堡壘的建築物中，觀察那些怪物在城市的街頭「覓食」。除了每天盡責盡職地做同樣的事情，羅伯特在這座「空城」當中也享受到了完全的自由：他可以駕駛著他的跑車在街道上橫沖直撞；在戰斗機上打高爾夫；用無價的珠寶裝飾他的堡壘等等，就連市中心最繁忙的商業街，如今也變成了羅伯特自家的「後花園」。作為人類最後的希望，羅伯特被唯一的一個殘留下來的任務驅使著，那就是使用自己血液中的免疫系統，尋找逆轉病毒的方法。雖然他知道自己面對的是一個龐大的天文數字，但是他沒得選擇，因為他的時間就快用光了。
影片有兩種結局，第一種結局是，就在他找到抗體的時刻，怪物們也侵入了他的堡壘，他只能捨命保護聽到他的電波與他會合的另外兩個人，這兩個人將他以生命為代價換來的抗體送到少數沒有感染病毒也沒有抗體的人類聚居地，而那裡的精英們將復制並傳播這種救命的葯，人類在一次繁衍生息，這也就意味著在未來的億萬年中，這少數托他的福活下來的人將永遠傳說他的故事，就像我們傳說治水的大禹，盜火的祝融……
另一種結局是，就在怪物們沖進來的那一刻，一個被他捕獲做試驗的女怪物清醒了過來，慢慢恢復為人類，而她正好是怪物首領的至愛女友，她激發了首領僅存的人性，使羅伯特也逃過了一劫……

這部影片能讓我們感悟人性之美的東西太多了，首先，災難後的影片給人最大的感觸是：原來生命中有那麼多東西我們不知道珍惜，只有到失去了才懂得惋惜。影片中最讓筆者從心裡感到酸酸的不是主人公妻子和女兒的死去，甚至也不是整個世界的荒蕪，而是這樣一個場景：羅伯特來到一家碟片里，里里外外放置了若干假人模特，羅伯特走到店門口，熱情的問候了店門口的兩個假人，還給他們每個人都取了名字，拿了一張碟，來到收銀台，和坐在櫃台後的假人也調侃了幾句，甚至還走到一個女性假人身邊，假裝偷看她，作出愛慕又不好意思表白的樣子，並在心裡暗下決心：明天，明天一定要鼓起勇氣和你談話！看了這些，筆者突然有種想要流淚的感覺：原來，原來人與人之間可以有這么多溫馨美好的感情，原來，走到一家小店，和熟人朋友們聊聊天，在內心默默地喜歡一個異性那麼的美好！羅伯特夢寐以求的一切，我們在意了嗎？
影片的兩種結局也都滲透著人性之美。第一種結局，羅伯特犧牲自己拯救了世界也拯救了身邊的人，這種行為無疑是高尚的，感人的；第二種結局，羅伯特死裡逃生，全仰仗怪物首領殘存的人性和愛情的力量，也不能說是牽強附會的大團圓。

這部片子讓筆者想起了另外兩部不那麼有名的「災難後」影片《人類之子》和《致命拜訪》，這兩部片子和《我是傳奇》一樣，對災難發生的原因不做過多的評析，而是設想災難發生後如何應對。《人類之子》設想的是如果人類失去了生育能力——這個許多人認為理所當然的能力——世界將會被絕望和頹廢籠罩，人們不再安心工作，到處是喊打喊殺的聲音……影片本身的情節比較單薄，帶有很強的動作片痕跡。《致命拜訪》設想的是如果，一種病毒蔓延，人類表面一切如常，但失去了感情，失去了喜怒哀樂，那又會怎樣？影片給我們的答案是：人將不人！影片中有一位妻子對她的心理醫生說，她的老公以前打他罵他，但當他親吻她的時候，她能感覺到發自內心的愛，但是，感染病毒之後，他不再打她罵她，甚至打不還手罵不還口，可是她也不再感覺到他的心，她寧願他回復到從前那個暴躁易怒的他！……這些災難片從獨特的視角，提醒我們在我們身邊，或者就在我們身上，就有很多美好珍貴的東西，要用感恩和珍惜的態度去面對。
相關評論
繼《范海辛》之後又一部用CGI堆積出來的糟糕作品，作為主角，威爾•史密斯可選擇的范圍也就變得少之又少。這部失敗的影片甚至讓最近的《致命拜訪》都變成了一個傑作。

影片改編自美國20世紀最偉大的作家理查德·馬瑟森(Richard Matheson)創作的同名小說……作為黑人演員中最有影響力的面孔，威爾·史密斯出演過一系列既賣座又受到好評的科幻動作電影，例如《我，機器人》、《獨立日》和《黑衣人》等等，所以對於他來說，這類影片絕對是他的「看家本領」，再加上他本人也是馬瑟森的忠實擁躉，貌似沒有比他更適全的演員人選了，史密斯說：「原著中包含了很多流派，恐怖和科幻也位列其中。當你成為全世界最後一個人類的時候--那種刺激的感覺源於心理，對我有著致命的吸引力，無論是從身體、情感還是精神上。故事中的主角羅伯特·奈維爾唯一的目的就是存活下去，這樣的狀態有可能創造出一個美麗的機會，來講述一下關於人類天性的世界觀。」

與阿齊瓦·高斯曼一起創作劇本的，還有馬克·波托塞維奇(Mark Protosevich)，他們有可能共同得到了一個近年來最受覬覦的電影主題，波托塞維奇說：「我對這個故事，已經垂涎了超過10年的時間了，最終能夠看到它在我的手中慢慢成形，真的是一個不可思議的經歷，尤其幕前和幕後還聚焦了一批如此有天分的電影人。」
獨角戲
《我是傳奇》大體講述的是一個男從如何以一種孤獨的狀態存活下來，所以製片人和導演知道他們需要一個包容量比較大的演員來飾演這個角色，當他們獲悉威爾·史密斯對這部影片非常感興趣時，心底的最後一塊大石也終於落下。史密斯與合作夥伴製片人詹姆斯·拉斯特(James Lassiter)近年來一直在多方打探小說改編版權的歸屬，如今算是得償所願，史密斯將會飾演羅伯特·奈維爾，那個雖然占據了整個故事，卻一直都是隻身一人的孤膽英雄，對於史密斯來說，這既是一個機會，也是一個挑戰。阿齊瓦·高斯曼解釋道：「作為一名編劇，我是非常相信用文字去創造一個角色的非凡能力的，但是，將文字用肢體語言表現出來的天分，也是同等重要的。史密斯就是這樣一個出色的演員，他能夠用蘊含了許多想法和感情的表演傳達很多東西。」

如果不是影片的製作費用過於高昂，如果不是華納雪藏，如果不是施瓦辛格在拍攝完《終結者Ⅲ》之後就忙於從政，我們也許在數年以前就能看到史詩大導雷德利·斯科特（《銀翼殺手》）同硬漢阿諾駕輕就熟的科幻經典。不過，如今能在銀幕上一覽英勇神武的黑哥們威爾·史密斯的人類拯救錄，我們也用不著太遺憾。因為身為絕對的票房靈葯，還走他最擅長的動作/科幻路線，影片的票房已絕對保證1億以上。

·最初的時候，影片在90年代就曾有過製作的意向，當時的主演是阿諾·施瓦辛格、導演是雷德利·斯科特，後來因為預算過高，兩人雙雙退出了劇組。

如何解釋這個反復出現的蝴蝶？
先從《聖經》說起，傳說在上帝身邊有九個天使和九個墮天使，九個天使不在我們討論范圍之列，我們先來了解一下什麼是「墮天使」——
簡單解釋一下「墮天使」
墮天使 統稱（samele)是相反的意思 但不是代表邪惡 更不是什麼墮落的天使
雖然墮天使中，有許多力量大的超乎我們想像的天使，可是那不代表他們邪惡、他們墮落、只是代表他們與其他的9個天使有著與眾不同的使命（一般墮天使的力量非常偏激）。
可以解釋為九個天使是執掌光明之力，九個墮天使執掌黑暗之力，這不是最正確的說法，卻是可以讓諸位最為理解的方法，你們知道嗎？〔撒旦〕就是墮天使其中之一！怎樣？長知識了吧？呵呵。撒旦的力量就是抵制和摧毀一切美好，所以人們也將它等同於惡魔。
墮天使甚至還有背叛上帝的，所以，上帝用右手封鎖了9個墮天使的靈魂。

墮天使之四，掌控「絕望」。
他的能力很特殊，外形是一隻蝴蝶，有著強大的攻擊力，也是上帝用來懲罰惡人，懲罰其他天使的「殺手」，他的力量大到讓上帝憐憫被害者。
傳說在第一次諾亞造方舟 ，他曾出現過一次，瞬間造出洪水淹沒世上的一切。
還有，末日審判前3天，他也參與並殺死人類總數1/3。
這個天使是最最危險，最最狂暴，最最瘋狂的天使，沒人知道他的身世，沒人敢靠近他，就連撒旦和歐亞提起他都要膽怯，一般人們說的殺手的化身，就是昔拉。
他的力量最恐怖就是讓人絕望！
它也就是大名鼎鼎的「殺戮天使」——KillingAngel
看到這里你明白了吧？沒錯，全片充斥著一種絕望的末日氣氛，無論是紐約荒廢的街道和黑夜的詭異，「絕望」兩個字貫穿著影片始終，當安娜向Neville說還有一個安全地時，Neville絕望的向她大吼到：「不可能！全死光了！」
當Neville送全家人上車准備離開紐約時，他的小女兒做了一個手勢並說道：「 mummy，look at it. It's a butterfly. 」（媽媽，你看，是一隻蝴蝶），這里的蝴蝶即是「審判」之意，蝴蝶意指昔拉對人類最終的審判。
影片進行到Neville駕車經過紐約市區時，一幕很有趣的鏡頭出現了——一輛坦克上閃過一個蝴蝶的海報，旁邊標注著一行字：「God still loves us」，是的，上帝依然還愛著人類，只是上帝拋棄了人類，上帝憐憫但絕不同情。
當影片進行到最後時，那個最終夜魔老大在玻璃上撞出一個蝴蝶圖案時，答案已經很明顯了，那個夜魔BOSS其實就等同於昔拉的化身，人類不斷僭越上帝的禁區，從克隆到基因改造，終於因為超越大自然本身的自然進化而受到了懲罰，（小註：癌症是人類至今無法攻破的疾病之一，影片利用抗癌新葯而產生的變異實際上表達了一種對現代醫葯學和人類疾病的憂慮）導演告訴我們這么一個道理：不要試圖改變大自然的法則，否則最後滅亡的只能是自己。

影片改編自美國20世紀最偉大的作家理查德·馬瑟森(RichardMatheson)創作的同名小說……作為黑人演員中最有影響力的面孔，威爾·史密斯出演過一系列既賣作又受到好評的科幻動作電影，例如《我，機器人》、《獨立日》和《黑衣人》等等，所以對於他來說，這類影片絕對是他的「看家本領」，再加上他本人也是馬瑟森的忠實擁躉，貌似沒有比他更適全的演員人選了，史密斯說：「原著中包含了很多流派，恐怖和科幻也位列其中。當你成為全世界最後一個人類的時候--那種刺激的感覺源於心理，對我有著致命的吸引力，無論是從身體、情感還是精神上。故事中的主角羅伯特·奈維爾惟一的目的就是存活下去，這樣的狀態有可能創造出一個美麗的機會，來講述一下關於人類天性的世界觀。」

這部發行於1954年的小說，以現代人的觀點看，仍然會有一種非常復雜的感覺且極具有煽動性，已經被廣泛認為是邁入現代恐怖科幻領域的入門教材，不但影響了幾代人，還刺激了無數個爭相效仿的後來人，以及兩部電影改編作品：1964年的《地球上最後一人》，由文森特·普雷斯領銜；1971年的《最後一個人》，查爾登·海斯頓是這里的主演……到了如今這部最新版本的影片，其編劇兼製片人阿齊瓦·高斯曼不但曾因《美麗心靈》而獲得了奧斯卡最佳改編劇本獎，他自己也是小說的作者理查德·馬瑟森一生的追隨者，所以對於高斯曼來說，能夠主筆將《我是傳奇》再度帶上大銀幕，確實是一件非比尋常的大事件，他表示：「馬瑟森對於我們這些為科幻故事神魂顛倒的怪胎來說，就好比是神。在嚴肅的科幻世界裡，有一個約定俗成的傳統，那就是利用角色性格的深層次根源，來釋放出強烈的主題--這一點和寓言故事很像，而這部影片也沒有脫離開這個潛規則。」

與阿齊瓦·高斯曼一起創作劇本的，還有馬克·波托塞維奇(MarkProtosevich)，他們有可能共同得到了一個近年來最受覬覦的電影主題，波托塞維奇說：「我對這個故事，已經垂涎了超過10年的時間了，最終能夠看到它在我的手中慢慢成形，真的是一個不可思議的經歷，尤其幕前和幕後還聚焦了一批如此有天分的電影人。」

【獨角戲】

《我是傳奇》大體講述的是一個男從如何以一種孤獨的狀態存活下來，所以製片人和導演知道他們需要一個包容量比較大的演員來飾演這個角色，當他們獲悉威爾·史密斯對這部影片非常感興趣時，心底的最後一塊大石也終於落下。史密斯與合作夥伴製片人詹姆斯·拉斯特(JamesLassiter)近年來一直在多方打探小說改編版權的歸屬，如今算是得償所願，史密斯將會飾演羅伯特·奈維爾，那個雖然占據了整個故事，卻一直都是隻身一人的孤膽英雄，對於史密斯來說，這既是一個機會，也是一個挑戰。阿齊瓦·高斯曼解釋道：「作為一名編劇，我是非常相信用文字去創造一個角色的非凡能力的，但是，將文字用肢體語言表現出來的天分，也是同等重要的。史密斯就是這樣一個出色的演員，他能夠用蘊含了許多想法和感情的表演傳達很多東西。」
